Labour pledge to freeze energy bills and replace energy efficiency schemes

September 25th, 2013

The Labour party leader, Ed Milliband, yesterday pledged to freeze energy bills until 2017 if Labour wins the next election in 2015. The party also announced that they would scrap the Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation and replace them with more effective policies.

Ed Matthew, Director of the Energy Bill Revolution said:

“Many people may welcome such short term relief from rising energy bills but the only long term solution is to super insulate the UK’s housing stock. We have the worst record on fuel poverty of any country in Western Europe because our homes leak so much heat.  We call on Labour to join the Energy Bill Revolution and use carbon tax to fund a much bigger and more ambitious energy efficiency programme to end the scourge of fuel poverty once and for all.”
