The Energy Bill Revolution

We are pleased to announce that the University and College Union (UCU) has joined the Energy Bill Revolution alliance, calling for warm homes and lower bills. UCU is the largest trade union and professional association for academics, lecturers, trainers, researchers and academic-related staff working in further and higher education throughout the UK, representing 120,000 members.

UCU joins six other major unions in joining the Energy Bill Revolution alliance – Unite, TUC, NUS, GMB, FBU and BACM Team are all on board.

The Energy Bill Revolution is calling on the Government to use the money it gets from carbon taxes to make our homes super-energy efficient. This is the only permanent way to drive down energy bills and end fuel poverty. It would be enough to bring 9 out of 10 homes out of fuel poverty, generate up to 200,000 jobs and save four times more carbon emissions than the Government’s new energy efficiency policies.

Graham Petersen from UCU said: ‘The University and College Union is the largest post-16 teaching union. The delivery of a low carbon economy will require a huge investment in training provision delivered by our members. As a union we want to campaign with the EBR to ensure an energy future based on a progressive energy efficiency and renewables policy.’
